War on drugs just seems to go nowhere. I guess that the most logical way to curb the drug problem is to legalize drugs. Start charging duty taxes on the drug exports and tax the pushers. This should have the desired effect of not only saving time, but also adding more money into the treasury. I think this would work because there was a precedent to this idea. Think back to the American Prohibition era and you will understand what I mean.

I have a friend join the police department back in the 80's when they made a drug bust they keep half of it for themselves and turned the other half in. Yes total waste of tax payers money!

some drugs are dangerous enough to merit the effort. weed isn't one of them. i'm not sure about ecstasy or mushrooms, but amsterdam has not exploded or slid into disrepair. it's a beautiful city, and they've legalized all three of those drugs, and they offer free methadone clinics to heroine addicts.
i think that the war on drugs as it is now is more trouble than it's worth; all it's done is drive up prison populations, crime rates and hamstring our foreign policy.

It has been proved not to work, history shows that.
The most cost effective, and successful way of reducing drug use, is through treatment, rehabilitation, and education, but this is ignored by our politicians, and one would have to presume that they want drugs to continue to destroy mainly the poor.
