It is impossible to say. The Earth's surface has always been in motion, and so there have always been earthquakes, far back into the planet's history. There are recorded earthquakes, but mankind's ability to record and rank them has only existed for the past century or so. The earth's crust is basically a slow fluid which shifts in various slabs (tectonic plates), and therefore every time these plates move, earthquakes often ensue. There are also earth tremors and quakes away from populous areas that are less likely to be recorded.
The deadliest earthquake in history was the Shaanxi Earthquake (1556), estimated to have killed 830,000 in China.
