Of coarse you can argue that they are general statements. But do you think there is some truth to steryotype. Theres a saying that there some truth to every joke. This is sort of the same. If no steryotype were true, why do we have them?

For example white people can't dance. Why is it white and not black hispnaic asian or whatever. Is there a reason that whites are getting picked on for that.

Asian are geeks, blacks are athletic, hispanic have alot of babies, you've heard them all and you get the point. Why do races get specific steryotypes. Does it have to do with culture?

Yes, there actually is some truth to stereotypes. I think for people to perpetuate the stereotypes, they see the worst thing about a particular race/ethnic group, and exaggerate it.

Of course there is truth in stereotypes. Otherwise they wouldnt be stereotypes. Different groups are associated with different traits, and you're probably safe assuming that someone in a specific group has that specific trait. While it may not be true for every individual in that group, the odds are probably high. People shouldnt be frustrated or offended by stereotypes. When the group's habits change, so to shall the stereotypes.

Before I became a tour guide-12 years ago-I thought stereotypes were inaccurate.I can say with confidence the exact opposite now.Having met thousands of people from different countries and cultures I know what to expect from Americans,Japs,Jews,Greeks and so on..There are different characteristics in every race or country and there is no smoke without fire.

Touchy subject! There's a core truth that racial and cultural groups ARE groups because they share certain characteristics in manner of speech, racial features, diet, and in some cases, worship practices. It becomes bad (stereotypes) when people are casually lumped together, assigned a generic set of characteristics based on race, and totally excluding individuality, AND, finally, designated by only those broad, negative parameters.

Misinformed cultures...

I don't believe in stereotypes, but won't argue their existance other than that. There are most always people that fall into stereotypes though, because people are diverse, so one or more is bound to fall into them.

I think there is some truth to some stereotypes - which is why we laugh when people use stereotyping in their humor. Things that ring true to us are funny.
