The nation will never say we've had enough. The government isn't going to say something unless the people say something. And the people can't protest because there is no alternative. It's one vicious circle. We made our bed of dependency, and now we have to lie in it.

The reason why the oil companies are post records profits is because they are maintaining the same markup...as a percentage. So, say it's 10%...yeah yeah, we all know it's higher, but let's just go w/ it. Well, if gas costs $2/gal then it would sell at $2 + (10% * $2 = $0.20) = $2.20...so, if they sell 100 gallons, then they earn $2000, right? So, w/ crude oil increasing, the gas costs increase and the sell price increases...so cost @ $3/gal sells at $3.30, so at 100 gallons, the profit would be....$3000...tada!
Secondly, how long until we say enough? Never. You're talking about America...Americans...we live only to splurge and spoil ourselves. We have people that make 6 or more figures a year living in the same cities as people who dream of earning a mere fraction of that...and no one shares, cuz we have that wonderful "what's mine is mine & what's urs is gonna be mine" attitude.
Sad to say, but I think we're going to need another Depression before we're wise enough to put an end to the madness that we ourselves allow.

Gas prices will never be so high that this Nation will ever again stick up for itself against its own government. Washington is to blame for the high prices far more than OPEC itself. Sixty percent of the gasoline price is taxes and obscenely excessive unearned profits for the Oil Companies. The Arabs are just the fall guys, the bogeymen who keep us selling lots and lots of military hardware.
Apparently, the great people of this Nation are more than willing to starve their own children to death rather than give up their SUVs and pickup trucks. The majority of said vehicles seeming to have "Bush/Cheney" bumperstickers and containing a lone driver.
As long as Homer has a dollar for a Duff Beer and Marge has enough cash for a Rinse and Set, gas prices will continue to rise.
Did you notice that the first two times we went into Iraq under Reagan/Bush that oil prices actually plummetted? Maybe putting two guys into the White House who are owned by Oil Companies, Energy Companies, Halliburton, and Lockheed-Martin wasn't such a hot idea after all, don't you think?

Unfortunatley I don't think the government cares. The US gas prices were pretty low compared to the rest of the world who was paying what we are paying now years ago. In the UK gas is close to 6 US dollars and close to 7 in the Netherlands. Gas has always been much higher in Europe for years. We had it made here. I wish I lived in Venezuela. They pay less than 0.20 cents a gallon!
BUY CITGO GAS!

we have created a society that is completely dependent on automobiles. For many americans there are no alternatives to driving. Decentralized suburban living has its's benefits but the way of the future must of necessity be a more urban life style.

Well the idea may be to get a more fuel efficient car or ride a bike for short distances.
George Bush is looking into this OIL COMPANY PROFITEERING. I think he said he would do something if he sees it going on. I guess "man sees what he wants to see, and diseregards the rest, lie, lie lie lie lie lie lie" Simon and Garfunkle, the Boxer.

first you should think about what you pay for coffee... 128 oz in one gallon... i get 20 oz drinks for like 3.50 or 4.00 about what i pay for gas, for 128 oz of gas that is. and who the hell said California is the most expensive gas??? have you heard of Alaska? or Hawaii? duh. and maybe you should all go to www.changingworldtech.com they use animal and human waste including landfill material and pressure cook it at about 600 psi and 500 degrees and it makes diesel... with current costs at their 1 functional facility it comes out to $22 per barrel
but overall i say quit bitchin! gas costs more. pay more and shut up
