Because the old windows systems could not recognize a file extension of more than three characters, it was required to shorten it to htm in order to allow windows users to access html content. No difference, unless you are the webmaster, as configuration parameters must include both extensions or you get some odd results.

The .htm files originated when all we had was a strict 3-letter file extension, which later turned into .html. Just be careful when you're uploading them, linking them, or just typing in a url since browsers see those two file extensions as different.

No difference. Its basically style of out of habit decrease back interior the days of DOS you will be able to desire to in elementary terms have 3 letters as a results of fact the extention (like exe, or dll) so thats what htm gets decrease short. yet now days it would not rely so some human beings positioned html and a few positioned htm. i'm shocked DreamWeaver does the two.

as you all know. www.w3.org is the www comunity and they released the hyper text markup language format. that's html format.
htm is the 8:3 format extension for html
you must know that today there still are os`s who use the 8:3 file format.
htm is for them
there is no diffrence at all. just the truncate of the "l" because its extension is greater than 3 letters.

no, html refers to hyper text markup language, it's just an extension of site names to specify they are HTML based. .htm and .html are all same.
