I make fun of myself...it's really hard to be embarrassed if you can laugh at your own stupidity.

Well it depends where. If it is a crowded place I button up and lower my head so nobody can see the four shades of purple I am turning. I don't like crowded places to begin with so I avoid them most of the time. Now that I am older I try not to be so self absorbed after the event. I think if you are younger and you are asking this question, the correct way to deal with embarrassment is to be careful with what you do in social settings and always remain in control. I spent some time talking to my nephew about remaining in control when he parties with his friends. We have all been there and the peer pressure for young adults is very frightening and dangerous at times. I remember one time I was after this young woman and I try to fit in at their table in the bar and I did quite well for the most part, but I am not an out going person and I lacked the experience to pursue her correctly. She was nice considering that I was out of line and I can remember going home that night and feeling like a fool. I really liked her but she wasn't for me in the same sense. I was set up by a female friend to ask her out and of course she was just trying to be nice but I didn't ask out another woman for years after that. I felt so ashamed of my existence, I guess I shouldn't think about it because it makes me sad. I was 23 and I didn't know what I was doing. I even considered suicide, I learned that I am too sensitive for that environment, too fragile and I don't miss the bar life at all....

Smile and take absolutely no notice.Nothing ever embarrasses me any more. It's other people who seem to get embarrassed about things.I just shrug things like that off and get on with life. Its all just a part of living.

Slowly lower my head with a small smile on my face, holding the bridge of my nose and nod as others have their laugh.
Things happen and we can let them mortify us or enrich us.

I walked into a glass door once. I picked myself up, and walked out there proud like it never happened.
