Any suggestions for cramps from hell??!! UGH!!! I've tried the heating pad, ibuprofen, & a warm shower. I don't drink alcohol, so that isn't an option (although it's beginning to sound like a good one at this point!!!). My Karmic Lego usually helps out in this (did you know that sex is actually physically therapeutic for PMS??! It's true---look it up!!)
But he's worked 8 straight days--most of them being 10-14 hours each; & he's getting some well-deserved rest.
I, in the mean time, am hurting like hell, & looking for suggestions??!!
Thank you in advance!!!

Thanks for the great ideas!! :-) You are all so sweet...
I appreciate the suggestions to see a doc/gyno---that would be my first idea to tell someone, too!! But-I didn't give all the info here, though. **sorry!!!**
I have PCOS; & also suffered from endometriosis for many years until I had a ruptured tubal---that's when they found all the extra tissue & burned it out w/ lasers....
I'm kinda used to having painful periods/PMS type stuff. Just seems like this one is worse than usual.

Well, I wanted to e-mail a couple of you to say, "Big, Honkin' Thanks!!" Honestly! Several of your suggestions were great!
But many of you can't be contacted directly. SO---I'll just give a general "Thanks" here...

I still don't feel very well, but I might actually be able to go lie down & be fairly comfortable soon...

I'm so damn tired...

I finally got a few straight hours of sleep---thanks again to ALL of you for your replies!

Oh wow, I feel for you. I get those too, cramps from HELL.

Ow.

At this point, they've already started, so keep taking meds and using the heating pad. You might wanna take 800 mg of Motrin combined with 500 mg of Tylenol. It's strong, but it does the job. When you lie down, try putting your feet up with the pad on your tummy.

When your period is coming, start taking meds right before you bleed, and at regular intervals throughout your period, whether or not you are experiencing pain. A Dr explained to me that cramps occur after a chemical chain of events. If you take Motrin before this chain of events finishes, resulting in cramps, then you circumvent the cramps from coming altogether. That's why it's important to start taking meds and continue with them throughout your period, regardless of whether or not you are having pain at the moment. It's like when you get antibiotics, you're supposed to take them for the full 10 days, even if you feel fine.

Oh, and try drinking a hot cup of chamomile tea. Chamomile is good for cramps, and the hot will do your innards some good.

Hope this helps.

Well, I usually use a hot water bottle. The pressure helps. Also, sometimes I lay on my stomach with a pillow under my belly. I think it's all about the pressure. Water or tea usually does some good. If all that doesn't work I massage my lower belly. If you have some ben gay or tiger balm you can massage that into your belly. If sex usually works maybe use a "marital aid" it's kinda messy and usually won't work for me because you have to use your muscles to lean up enough to reach. I feel your pain. Ask your doctor about anaprox. It's a kind of naprocin (like alleve) works great and doesn't make you loopy.

I read in Cosmo a few years back to try catnip tea. I know it sounds nasty, but it really works. The stuff in it that drives the cats bonkers also helps relax the contractions inside, hense relieving some of the cramps.
Skim article to the 1/3 mark or so for the recipe:

Well, Evening Primrose oil capsules before hand help. Exercise (not just sex) helps also, as does something nice and warm like a hot shower or bath. Beyond that, Ibuprofen or your favorite pain killer. You may want to talk to your doctor about endometriosis or fibroids.

I get severe cramps too. I take Darvocet or Naprosyn when they're really bad and ibuprofen won't work. A big glass of milk helps me (but I don't know if that's my own placebo). When it's that bad, I just pray that I fall asleep and that when I wake it will all be better. I heard Rosemary Tea should help too.

If you try exercising on a regular basis then your cramps will ease up a bit. I didn't believe when someone told. Later I started to work out (but not because they told me to). The next time Aunt Flo came to town it was much much worse than usual

Soak in a hot bath with epsom salt in it. It'll help relax you. Massage your hands. There's so many points in your hands that will help you relax and hopefully relieve your pain.
