A friend & I have gotten very close our freshman year of college, and have intended to room with each other from now on afterward. The dorm style is like a town-house where there are two roommates per room (4 of us) with 1 bathroom & 1 living room.

We want to room together but a 3rd roomie has already been assigned with my friend, and she does not really want to move out. We move into the dorms in about a week, and my friend & I want to room together because we know we are compatible with living with each other; we are also fairly sure that the 3rd roommate will be a little disturbed by us. We have no 4th roommate, so she would get to live in the other bedroom by herself in peace which she seems to heavily favor (except she doesn't want to if there might be another one coming. We've told her that we want to room with each other, but she doesn't acknowledge it as much of a serious consideration as we do.

What should we say to her so that she knows we really want to room together?

Talk to the girl again- be very clear but not rude, since you'll have to live with her for a year
If that doesn't work, try to talk to the RA - she's trained to mediate disputes like this.
If that doesn't work either- go to housing and tell them your problem. Be aware that they might move you to a different room, but if you really want to stay together, it's worth it.
Good luck

You probably should have advised the college that you wanted to room together at the end of the previous year, or when you registered. You may not have any choice in the matter since the 3rd person was assigned. Try discussing it with her. And, do you have a Resident Adviser or some equivalent? Try discussing it with her, too. As a last effort, you can go to the college housing office and ask them to intervene- they may or may not.

Don't say anything to her. Since you don't have a roommate assigned to your room, your friend should just go to the housing people and apply for a transfer into your room.

You can go with your friend to the housing office and explain to them that you would not mind her moving in with you. I don't see why they wouldn't let you switch. Just don't tell the 3rd roommate your plan, in case she shows up at the housing office uninvited.

Go to the housing authority and ask that you and your friend be transferred to another, empty room in another house! Tell the 3rd person not to take it personally, but she was being really difficult.

Tell her that you two might be thinking about a relationship together and that you feel rooming together is the best thing for it.

Or you can say that you'll go tell the RA and keep going up until she lets you do it.
