Believe it or not the car I drive now is a 98 chevy cavelier and that is the longest I've own a car in my 25 years of driving. So in 8 years time I may have about 75, 000 miles on my first new vehicle. Not bad eh? Funny thing too: (knock on wood), I've only had to replace a batery, fix a hole in the windshield from an asphalt rock, and fix the side door from where my friend backed into the side of my car. You may think that I don't get around much, but I ride my bike a lot for short trips through town. The sole purpose of my vehicle is for a few trip up north in the summer and going too and from work. Went to Arkansas once...and Pensyvania, ohio and still...only 75,000 miles.
I've been lucky. I've had a few good cars in my life. But maintenance tips for a high mileage car is to just sell the car and buy a newer vehicle. You'll spend less money on gas and maintenance.

30,000 on a rebuilt engine. Monte Carlo Chevy 1976. For high mileage vehicles a must do oil change every 3,000 miles, 6-12 months new spark plugs, check more frequently everthing else than u would a new low mileage vehicle.

My son has an '89 ( I think) Chevy S-10 4x4 with 229,000 and climbing. Original engine and trans, with no major overhauls.
The body is about shot though. He just changes the oil every 3000 and doesn't get too wild when offroading.
