Going to college in California was interesting. I found many Californians to be very more inward looking. Many didn't know of places or things outside of the state it seems and some have never been out of Cali. In your experience, are Californians more ignorant about the world in general than people from other states, and is this because they live in such a large and important state, because they are really "relaxed" people, or is this due to something (if anything) else?

I'm not referring to open-mindedness - which I agree Californians have in spades. It's more like a general disinterest and a general lack of knowledge in the world at large and this is to be found even in College that is known for its activism

I'd have to agree with the answer above me. There are morons in every state, unfortunately. However, in my experience CA has less than average.

You will find that people who have left California, in a few years, come back. Why?
Because they miss it, and find that not every place is like California. They miss the ocean, the trees in Northern Calif., the friendly people. You can go anywhere and be entertained. Winter sports, summer sports, beautiful scenery, lovely landscaping all over. Most anything grows in S. Calif., and you will never have long winters. Some areas get hot, but not all year. You can get cheaper homes in some areas, but rapidly going up in price. Once you leave, it is hard to get back in, due to the prices. I will never leave. I have once, and came right back in a few years. The excitement of seeing miles and miles of lights. You just feel the excitement in the air, traffic is bad, but that is almost everywhere these days. Air pollution, well, that is too. I would take the beach any day over any other area.

Californians can't be too different since most of them are from someplace else. I think what is perhaps unique about Californians is that in pursuing their dreams or escaping their nightmares they have gone as far west as they can without falling into the ocean. This is where all those people with issues to deal with finally stop and deal wth them. Or not.

It gets worse outside of California. Californians are the most open minded people in the United States. They also know more about other cultures and other countries than the other states because there's more diverse cultures in California than in other states.

Yes.
I'm from Cali and I agree that we don't know too much about other states because we have everything we need here. We don't NEED to look to other states for entertainment, food, wine, oceans, mountains, valleys, beaches, amusement parks, or really anything else. It's all here.
I hope that doesn't sound boastful. That's not what I meant. I just mean that we are happy to be here. I feel so comfortable here that I'd only like to visit other states, probably not move there.
Kind of like : If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Great question! : )

definite, Californians are diverse. So are Texans and New Yorkers and Illinoisans and Georgians, etc. each and every state, and each area interior of a state, has features that make human beings from there unique. i'm from downstate Illinois and we see ourselves as being very diverse from Chicagoans. basically like there's a huge distinction between west Texans and east Texans or northern California and southern California (and to take it greater advantageous, ameliorations between human beings from San Diego as antagonistic to l. a.). we live in a super, quite diverse united states of america and that's unquestionably cool. i've got traveled everywhere in the U. S. and Canada and that i like experiencing interior of reach subculture. traveling someplace like New Orleans and distinctly countless the smaller cities around it the place there are a number of Cajuns sense like i'm no longer in hassle-free terms in a diverse state from Illinois, yet in a diverse united states of america. So, yeah, Californians are diverse, basically each and every physique else. :)
