I assume you are talking about the good old US of A.
I am almost convinced (almost) that the government is doing what it thinks is best for the American public.
Unfortunately, it appears to be a bit misguided, and here's why:

1) War in Iraq: People who are not blind followers of Bush see the irrational logic behind the Iraq invasion. The main leaders of terrorism, such as Osama and his "generals" are not anywhere near Iraq. They are believed to be in Pakistan and 9/11 terrorists came from Saudia Arabia. I saw the benefit of invading Afghanistan but not Iraq.

Another problem the Bush Administration has is the large connections to Saudis and oil business. Not to mention connections with Defense contractors. It is just too easy to think that Bush was involved in Iraq for the oil profits. Why did he ignore Saudi terror cells and why aren't there any sanctions against Saudis? The War in Iraq is going to be a difficult War to leave without a damaged reputation.

2) Religious influence: It is no secret that Bush is a deeply religious person. There is nothing wrong with this, but when policies are affected by religious beliefs, facts and logical debate is impossible to attain. Therefore, making religious policy is against us who do not share those beliefs.

3) Curtailing of Civil Rights: There has been very little actual infringement of personal rights since the Patriot Act. However, if it wasn't for the backlash from it, it could have applied even deeper. All in the interests of "National Security" and this speculative benefit from the Patriot Act outweighs our interests in freedoms.

Sorry for the long answer. But in a nutshell, the Bush Administration appears to have conflicts of interest with Defense Spending and Big Oil and have ignored our individual rights for their belief that out protection demands it. Simply a misguided policy that may do significant harm if things don't change.

They are for us, they just don't show it by the way they tax or the the working class will always be the first to get laid off when a company is going under, but it think the government is for the people, the people are to tell congress how to act the problem is that some americans do not get involved with their local, state, or national government but they complain about problems, but you can't complain if you don't get involved or try to push the state reps, people have to use their resources

The government is secretly planning to take away a little bit of our rights at a time, hence the recent economic downturns. They planned it just as a means to start taking a little bit away at a time. One day if nothing is done, we will be living in a slave society. The government and the corporations are working together to create a slave society, I believe. This has nothing to do with Obama, its the whole system

From the inaction of the Democrats and Republicans, I would say they are against us, against America.... and I mean the Republicans and Democrats, not the government... they direct the government... our government is OK, but many of those elected to serve in it are not acting in the best interests of Americans.

They will not fight to win, they will not close the border, they will not deport illegal aliens, and they come out at night like cockroaches to vote themselves, and foreign countries, largess from the public treasury. I must view most of them as corrupt.

Well it really depend what government you are talking about for example a country like Burma the answer is obvious.

Lets say you are talking about America, well it really depends in a mpd ( democracy) the government usually has no option but to try to please enough of the population to maintain the power the population gave them, but there is all ways a hidden agenda with any government.

Sometimes I think that the gov't only cares for big companies( Halliburton, Exxon Mobile and other big and rich friends of Bush and the Republicans) since they get the biggest tax breaks and they're making record profits because of war.

The government is of the rich, by the rich, and for the rich. As long as the Corporations are able to influence politics through "Contributions" then the greed, corruption and self-interest will remain.

Each adminsitration is in power for it's own gain. Politicians are bought by big corporations, so they cater to them, at the expense of the middle class. Therefore, in a way they are against us.

I have to admit, I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to the government. I read too many books and watch too many movies about the "Big Brother" theme.

I think the Government toys around with us to keep us stable. How many things do they know, that we don't because half of the society would panic?
