you need to take up math and science courses at high school, then join an university to complete you undergraduate and graduate courses in science (your chosen area of science, say physics, chemistry, biology..etc.) as soon as you achieve your Masters degree , you go for doctoral studies in which you need to write a thesis on any unexplored or under-research area. guys who pursue research at the doctoral level, even before they have submitted their thesis, are ideally scientists. all the best!!!
