just last week on the today show, there was a report that stated men are going back to the macho image that was once traditional before metrosexual became a lifestyle. men today are looking up on male celebrities such as tom hanks, johnny depp, and all of those other scruffy looking actors on movies. the return of the manly man comes as "queer eye" run its last course on bravo and some women are just not that appealed to men who spend most of their paychecks on manicures, facials, spa treatments, fine clothing, hair products and cosmetics.

i don't know about the rest of you women or gay men who agree with this turnaround in society. i think it's just awkward to not see a guy have his nails done, get into the fashion scene, or live a cultured likestyle. i don't want to see a guy with long fingernails or toenails for that matter, a nasty body, scruffy hair, and that macho attitude towards women.

I have to say that I love a well groomed man, but not one that is prettier than I. The metrosexual was never my cup of tea, but I'm not much into dirty dudes either.

Peace.

For one.........Johnny Depp was metro before anyone else. He's a pretty-boy, whether or not he grows out his hair and toenails, and never showers again! Besides, all of these Hollywood boys...their "retrosexuality" is manufactured! They didn't really roll out of bed looking like that...they have *stylists* to make them look like they rolled out of bed looking like that.

For two, it's not exactly NEW for men to take interest in their appearance. And it's certainly never been an option for upper-class males. To be well-groomed is to be upper-class. The "scruffy" look also does not look "manly-man" to me. This look is more associated in my mind with hippies!

When I think "manly-man", I think ...maybe a 5 o'clock shadow...not afraid to get sweaty...well, really I think of Clint Eastwood, mostly.

For three, I think the terms "metrosexual" and "retrosexual" are the most ridiculous words I've ever heard. Couldn't we just call them Neo-Dandies? :D

I mean, I wouldn't be interested in dating a man prettier than me...but I do like a guy who can keep his nails clean and short, keep his hair trimmed, shower regularly, and dress neatly...is that so wrong??

..............than again.......if I could have a chance with Johnny Depp, maybe I could learn to love his toenails. :)

i'm not so into the manly-man retro sexual image - and I think the term is stupid - why should we digress when men have finally come so far in taking care of their appearance. I think it is one or two fashion editors trying to change things back and some of the icons they are using don't really fit their motive....(i have heard them say both Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt fit this image - which is ironic because they were 2 of the most beloved metrosexuals, same with Jude Law) anyway - i like my man well groomed and shaved.
