Las Vegas, Nevada.
Specialty items: see a Cirque show. Cirque du Soleil. Damn the price, full speed ahead, but don't pay above face value. Get the tickets directly from the hotel box office.
Cheap trinket for yourself: collect a $1 chip from each casino you visit.
Souvenirs for family/kids: you really can't miss. For cheap souvenirs, spend an evening at Fremont Street, downtown. My personal favorite cheap souvenir is the slot machine pen. At least it does something. If you're winning, try the souvenir shop at the Hard Rock..that's a good one, but it isn't cheap.
Souvenirs for friends....if they have a sense of humor: Our friend who worked in a prominent Chicago nightlclub at the time, visited us in Vegas and was looking for ideas for souvenirs for the friends back home. My husband came up with a great one. For FREE, anywhere up and down the strip, you can get flyers advertising escort services...little business size cards with pics of scantily clad babes...people just hand them to you as you walk past the hotels....and they stuff them into the sides of the magazine racks too...it's a vegas thing. So the friend brought stacks of them--all different sorts--back to Chicago and gave each friend an assortment in a little envelope. Hilarity ensued. I'll trade you a '2 for 1 direct to your room' for the 'blonde in the cowboy hat"...I'm sure you get the picture. Hey, it's Vegas, after all.

If u plan on coming to India, be prepared to take back a lot of souvenirs. Because India is such a country where u will find the most exotic things. As for my city -TIRUPUR - in South India is the capital for export of knitted garments. You can buy truckloads of T-shirts at throw away prices.
