As far as a specific word for the action itself, there is not one that I know of. It is a minor compulsive psychoses, however. Just like the constant shredding of paper, or the bending and rearranging of paperclips, running your fingers through your hair is a compulsive disorder and, in some instances, can lead to thinning hair (I know this sounds far-fetched, but it does appear to be true). It is linked also to the same compulsion that makes people chew their fingernails or constantly rub their earlobes.

That is most done by people who are stressed. Also most girls who are on drugs and those who smoke and drink do it quite often.

I don't know the term they use - I'm sure there is though.

I believe there's no exact term for that. But I see you admire your hair very much. You like how it feels to run your fingers through your hair, huh?

My brother has this problem too. When it was at its worse, he pulled strands of hair out until he had a bald patch.
