Looking at the last presidential election maps that show voting results by county. It is obvious that the Democrats carried almost every county in which a large city was located but Republicans carried almost all the rural counties. It appears to me that we involved in class warfare more than anything. Urban dwellers vrs Farmers and Hillbillys?

G-Bear hate to tell you this but I have studied the Civil war extensively and own over 200 books on the subject. Never said anything about the North and South. Lots of Hillbillies in the North too. "Vrs" is used anytime there are two opposing thoughts or sides such as Chiefs vrs. Broncos

Warning, generalization:

Rural voters tend to vote based on moral, family, spiritual issues which the Conservative party has recently hijacked. Nothing wrong with voting based on what you believe but there is this mentality that Liberals are "immoral".

Urban voters tend to be more accepting of the way people live their lives but are more concerned about economic issues such as welfare and insurance since the cities are expensive. The Liberal party has been seen as the bastion for civil rights and government spending but think Conservatives are greedy and backwards.

Really, it could come down to class warfare, but it seems strange. Rural people are generally less wealthy so you would think they would want more government spending. People in the city have better jobs and would want less spending.

I think it comes right down to divisions on social/family/spiritual issues. Red states are "non-progressive" or "backwards" and Blue States are "progressive" but "immoral and wrong".

Sorry for the long answer. Just my thoughts.

Pima County, Arizona generally voted Democratic (Kerry won here) and it's the largest county in AZ. But, of course, it's mostly vacant because it's the Sonoran Desert, but what it does have is the University of Arizona. The largest city, and actually the 6th largest city in the US, Phoenix, carried Bush. What that amounts to is probably this: Tucson is a college town and is the home of many liberal thinking citizens. University people, like Seattle, WA as well, home of U of Washington, think that Liberal politics will generate a base that is more favorable to progressive thinking. The Mars Rover was built in Tucson, AZ, and the cameras are run from here. And yet, we voted for Kerry. The conservatives tend to cut monies from programs that advance the sciences and the Arts, as well. Let alone humanitarian services which keep the people healthy and productive, in spite of the low wages and long hours imposed by the industrial sector. .............

Ah, very observant, it's kind of true. Highly generalizing, but true never the less.

Even here in Illinois, which is a traditionally "blue" state, but it's only because the population dencity is concentrated in and near Chicago. The rest of the state traditionally votes Red.
I live in a Far Western Suburb which is predominantly Concervative/Republican. I feel like a purple thumb!!
But I don't care.

Well I know alot of conservatives in the cities but almost no liberals in rural areas. And there are more registered republicans than there are democrats. Go Republicans!

That makes sense because rural (conservatives) want to work and see the republican party as nation builders giving them and their families jobs, in order to support themselves. The urban (liberals) don't want to work, they want everything to be giving to them. Hard working people live in rural areas and people looking for handouts live in city's, where the chances of getting a handout is higher.

i could agree with...but its not just location of the person but the mindset...people is cities tend to think they are superior to those in the country...and they need to "educate" poor dumb country folks...but what drives small towns to become big liberal towns...don't all towns start out as conservatives...then moochers come in and start causing crime, discord, and then demand money for nothing...the city grows because of it conservative roots...then they abandon what made them so great in the first place...then you New Orleans, L.A. etc...all corrupt and full of violence...who wants to live in liberated cities with their ideology...i used to live in a big city...but i prefer country people more than city people...they are much nicer...and have respect for each other...
