Depends on what you call the beginning. The most plausible definition would be the big bang.

Beginning of what ?

We tend to see events, having a beginning and an end. This is only due to our field of interest.

As far as matter, energy, life, etc. is concerned, nothing can start from an arbitrary zero or void.

So, there has never been a beginning. We just go through stages of existence !

Who said it was a beginning ???
Something happened at a time, but nobody can say it was nothing before. Our perception of time sticks to our perception of the universe. As we can't observe what was before that big bang (if any) we just can't say what was before.

As time began at the big bang, and you need time to have a "before", nothing existed before the big bang.
