You get a huge discount off the TV licence in the UK for using a black & white TV, but where on earth are you going to be able to buy a B/W TV larger than 10" .... So is this a cynical ploy to make TV licencing look fair

Lets face it the term T.V. licence is a joke in itself it is another tax which is true because the money is used to finance the BBC. so if you own a television you have to pay regardless of the fact that you may never watch the BBC or listen to its god awful radio stations. The BBC would probably collapse if heaven forbid it had to work for its money.

Some people still might have a b/w tv set. Yes, it sounds ridiculus but in reality if we take a step back, yes it's fairer. But, like u said wwho's gonna go out & buy a b/w tv if they already got a colour. Some might do, don't be suprised. Thank god we don't have a tv licence here in Cyprus but the adverts here can go on 4 @ least 5 mins!!!! -((

Very few people would buy a b & w tv, but at least it gives low income individuals a choice. Colour tv is good, but b & w is ok for general entertainment. By the way, to the confused American responder, we buy a license mainly as a way of funding the BBC, which lets them broadcast stuff which might not be commercially viable. Similar idea to PBS, I think, just paid for differently.

yes it is. whats the point of b/w TV. who ONLY watches b/w TV. its a joke. stop making b/w TVs . its 2006 stop living in the past. like you said its just a ploy by the BBC. did you see THE SUN newspaper yesterday. the BBC have paid out £ 17 million in bonuses over the year but they are axing 3000 jobs ??? work that out. That's our licence fee money they waste then moan saying they have no money and have to make 3000 people redundant.

It is historic like most rules and regulations. Rules are rarely updated as the effort to update them is not worth the grief that would occur from the one or two old biddies that still have a B&W TV and no colour TV's.

What is so unfair about that?

No I think it is just because some people still have just B/W TV set but still need to pay their licence.

My mom tells of long sleeves and gloves interior the summertime warmth in basic terms so they might seem easy white in basic terms like the girls from city. So while somebody calls me a redneck I in basic terms smile. For I surely have in no way been ashamed of being from the country or from a working class family individuals. The term "Redneck" suits me in basic terms superb.
