It's a wonderful country with a good heart.
The problem is that, at least in politics, our major parties have been hijacked by both the far right and the far left.
They don't represent most Americans. Most Americans are exactly as you describe: Hardworking men and women who want a little security and a better future for our children.

I don't think America stinks. America is a beautiful country.
On the other hand I think that marketing has turned American's ideas about what makes their own lives beautiful does stink. I was raised in a time when people were not afraid of practically everything and I think that we have created a generation of people that are afraid of so many things that they are obsessed with security and safety to the point where many things that used to be wonderful, like a walk in the forest, or swimming in a lake are now considered too dangerous to be attempted. And it isn't just marketers that promote this fearful mindset. Attorneys and the medical profession have both done their share to make life fearful. Insurance companies have contributed their share to the fear stew.
I almost feel sorry for those that have been infected by the neurosis of fear. On the other hand some real dangers have been addressed and are not nearly as dangerous as they once were. But that doesn't seem to sell any products so the fear noise ratchets up.
And then there is the corruption of the present administration but that's too long a story to go into here.

The problem isn't the country, but it is it's people.
The family structure is falling apart and our children are out of control. When the media isn't focused on terror and hopelessness, it's consumed with overindulgence and frivolity. People don't care about anyone, they're just all out chasing something they feel is eluding them. Then when they finally find what they think will fill the void, it's still not good enough, so they figure everything else must be the problem, never them.
They need to realize the emptiness and disappointment they're feeling stems from the fact that no one believes in anything anymore. Their lives have no principles or a strong foundation from which to build happiness upon. They need to find faith and love and walk with God, then they'll see that with him they are never lacking, and when in his love they are never without.

The problem is people who are not grateful for how good they have it. People who are never satisfied, never happy, and have unreal expectations of what the government should GIVE them. What would make it better? How about every kid that finishes school is sent around the world to see what it is really like. Maybe then they would have a better understanding. Maybe then they would see why more people from around the world try to come to America than any other country

Don't get me wrong, I complain about America, and live in New York City. I have no plans to move anytime soon. Happy?
If things get real bad though, I will move to London so I do not have to learn a new language. :P
