In the 1980s Russia invaded Afghanistan to shore up the communist government which was been attacked by muslim fundamentalists who wanted a taliban type government
The fundamentalists were supported by Saudi Arabia, the USA and the UK among others.
Lots of Saudis went there to fight the russians and one of them was bin Laden.
He set up a training centre called Al Qaeda (the base) and the military intelligence services of the USA, the UK, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia co-operated to train his followers in guerilla warfare and terrorism.
That's where he aquired his expertise.

He and his group were armed and assisted by the CIA when they were fighting the Soviets in Afghanistan. Bin Laden is a creation of the old cold war... and now, he is the leading name in the new cold and hot war. It's sad but true.

i totally agree with brainstorm. bin laden has gained tremendous expertise in his field of terrorism, and nobody can deny this fact, however he is still an output of the US govt. and its foreign policy. I guess this proves that there is someone greater than the great bin laden?! hmmm.... what do u think?

There is nothing good you can say about Bin Laden anyway so why call him great ? All he does is bad. He will be caught one day just as other baddies have been caught.

Every body,
In any field, if you start glorifying small deeds of any person ,then under illusions he starts doing some thing bigger everytime and singlemindedly and the end result is in front of you.
Same thing is applicable to any great artist , sportsperson, actor, conman, thief, chef etc. etc. They get a kick out of achieving something bigger every time and for them normal becomes boring..
