If you believe in your party, in what it stands for, in what it is trying to achieve, whether you are a Liberal or a Conservative, then why do so many feel you need to lie, to distort the facts, to deflect the real issues, in order to get your point across?
Any politician who feels he or she has to distort the truth, to manipulate facts, to falsely accuse his or her opponent, to get elected doesn't deserve to be elected to anything in this country.
If you can't win purely on the strength of your platform your whole agenda is a sham.
It's simply immoral and we deserve better than this.

Very true and I agree with you. However, realize that many politicians on both sides cite different sources for their so-called "facts". So while it may appear that they are "purposely" misleading you by distorting the truth, it could be that they've chosen to use a source that agrees with their point of view.
It really depends on the subject matter. The economy is a good example. Economists look at so many different factors to make conclusions on the direction it is moving and the effects of past decisions. A politician will pick and choose the conclusions that are in agreement with their platform.
The validitiy of the source is really what's in question most of the time, though the politician takes most of the blow from the criticism..

First, Id like to say that Im not far right and that I do my best not to lie. Saying that I never lie is like saying you never or always do anything. Some people within the political system and some people on the outside of it feel the need to forward a specific agenda for thier party. So they will say anything and manipulate circumstance to get control. I dont normally like to point fingers, but a good example of this would be how a lot of the democratic officials will say that they dont agree with the war or how it was handled but not say specifically what thier problem with it was. I support the fact that the troops went into the middle east because if nothing had been done about 9-11 there would be a much more serious problem with terrorism and islamo-fascism in this country and worldwide. I'll agree that there were mistakes made and I definitely dont agree with detainees being tortured, or the murder or rape of civillians.

Yep sounds great and your right. But do you really believe that human beings are going to suddenly stop and change a behavior, that has gone on for as long as you want to believe human life has existed? Humans will lie to get want they want. Grade schoolers will lie about stealing a cookie, Teenagers lie about other teens to make themselves look or feel better. And most colleges will tell you that cheating is rampant and they know it. College professors will fight tooth and nail for the right to be immoral to stimulate the mind and cause creative thinking, when alot are just promoting their own views. Frankly take about half the pay, most of their staffs, free cars, free vacations, free dinners, and the ones that are left will be the ones that really care. But that would take the voters working together. And that brings us back to human behavior

You're right, politicians who lie, shouldn't be elected. The problem is that the political landscape has devolved to such a state, that even though an independent can run, he's got a snowball's chance in hell of gaining an office with any real authority.
I believe the real question is, how do we fix it?

LMAO.. When will you quit posing as mainstream?
Your posts show you are nowhere near the center.
If you want to talk "platform", doctor, I'd gladly inform you of what platform means -- SOURCES, something that is scarce in your answers.

You are right, but that is age old politics. I too wish it was more truthful. But sometimes you have to read between the lines when you vote.
