Me too! You are a romantic aren't you. Do you also kinda write romantic stories in your head when you are bored or driving long distances? I was on a really long drive and I wrote like a whole romantic/sexual book in my head. I wrote it down when I got home, and about 6 months later my husband found it. I didn't know it at the time but for a while my husband took great pleasure in reenacting some of the parts. I thought wow how cool its like we are really in sync and he must really know me. I only found out later he read my book. But for a while it was literally quite a ride.

I love romance novels, but they're escapist materials to me, so I don't really see myself in the pages or characters. As for my love life, my guy is great, but of course he's not always Prince Charming in front of me (that's real love, I'd have to say-- that you want to be with a person even when he's being "gross" or going through tough times). I have no illusions that heroes like those in romance novels actually exist. If you have a guy like that, then lucky you! As for why so many married women read them, it tells you that most men aren't like that! @_@

Katrina,
Darling, I have a confession to make. I have NEVER read a romance novel. Aren't those the paperbacks with paintings of a younger Fabio as a swashbuckler or rakish courtier?
I have a sinful, lifelong fascination for murder mysteries and novels of international intrigue, especially the novels of Thomas Gifford like "The Wind Chill Factor" and "The Man from Lisbon." THAT's where I see myself in the pages of the novel.

I have always contended that women who read those things are lacking something in their love lives. Romance novels are nothing more than a substitute for whatever they feel they're missing out on. Also, the fact that so many married women read them certainly must tell ya something.

I think that it is a great way to get away from the business of real life, but it is unrealistic, so it depends on what you like.
