you know it seems like suicide is such a touchy subject, so hopefully im not offending anyone by bringing it up but i have my opinion on the subject and that would be that in certain instances i think its an appropriate and understandable thing to do, my question is why do people so quickly turn to say that suicide is "selfish" or "cowardly" to me it seems like it would be SELFISH to expect a person who is suffering terribly to endure a lifetime of pain (im speaking of instances where a paerson wants to end there life on account of disease/disability i dont think that emotional problems are ever a good reaosn to kill oneself but i do think that if someone is in a situation that is unendurable and it is because of disease or disability or just flat out being to old to enjoy life anymore that they have every right to take that route) when someone says that it is always selfish or cowardly i just cant understand that,if one is unable to care for themselves anymore isnt it there time?

To some people, suicide just seems like the only way out. If you have not been though this, it is difficult to understand.
I know that if something were to happen to me, I would not want to live. I would not want somebody to have to take care of me.
That is the point that Dr. Kevorkian stresses with his assisted suicides. He believes that a person should have control over their own destiny. Why lay in bed and slowly die of cancer? Why can't a person make their own decision?
I totally agree with Dr. Kevorkian, and I think it is wrong that his ideals area not more widely accepted.
Typically it isn't the patient who has a problem with death- it is the family.

it is a touchy subject but should be more open. I think a person should live out their entire life, but usually without artificial means such as a bed-bound elderly person who is comatose, gets, tube feedings, gets turned and diapered every 2 hours, gets bed sores, has no quality of life. Have you ever seen a person this way? They no longer look recognizable because the tube feedings are usually too many calories for an immobile person and the nursing home gets in trouble if patients lose weight. If it's me let me lie there and die without all those trappings. To me it is torture. There mouths gets full of sticky and crusty saliva. They stink. They may need to be suctioned. That is painful. But as for purposely ending a life by means of suicide, I am against it because it is playing God. God gave us life and we should not destroy it. That is like spitting in God's face.

The worse thing about suicide is the living left behind. They tend to blame themselves and live a life riddled with guilt.

I certainly don't think of it as cowardly. I could never have the courage to do it.

If I was disabled or debilitated by a disease, I wouldn't particularly want to live. Especially if it was really serious. But then again, psychology does play a role when it comes to having a disease or disability.

Life is meaningless. You don't need anything life offers. For all we know it's all just a big test on humanity. To see how long we enslave ourselves in this huge prison or hell we call Earth.

Suicide transfers your pain to another person. You won't feel anything anymore but the people who cared about you will for the rest of their life and their pain won't stop
