People on this site are really being *ssholes. can someone tell me why?

Most of them probably have been using their calculators in school as long as they can remember. The concept of doing math in their head is totally foreign to them.

That's weird. What exactly don't people understand about that? Some tests require that you have to know the subject inside and out. You can't know that if you have to use a calculator or a computer. I'm not sure what you asked, so I couldn't say why people said what they did. Maybe you worded it so that it could mean something else?
