They Cage the Animals at Night is the name of the book, written by a New York City police officer, who was abused as a foster child while he was growing up in "the system".

As the book describes the scene, imagine an 11-year-old boy forced to strip naked, by an adult staff member, and stand on a table, to be viewed by all the other children in a New York City children's shelter. This was his punishment for wetting his bed during the night.

My father was a foster child for awhile, and where he lived farmers would take him just to use him for labor.
