I don think patience is a retard thing
patience is good for your health & keeps you out from unexpected thing that eventually occured when you losing your patience

I would think patience as one of tools for diplomatic purpose.
It is one of the strategies for people to use in human society.
For example.
Patience will be good practice for sniper, doctor, philosopher, teacher, nurse, researcher, lawyer, and politician.

Psychological studies have shown that the ability of a child to "delay gratification" (have a big reward later as opposed to a small reward now) was a big indicator of their success in later life. I think it has to do with that.
