Flash Drives are only for transferring data, music photos. its not an ipod you cant see the picture or hear the music without plugging it in to another computer. they are good but only for transferring.
if you like music do what i did. buy an external hard drive case $50 and a 80 GB desktop hard drive, about $90.
you can use it as a back up to store all your data on then down load and share all your friends music. i have 14000 tracks

Flash drives are great. If you download music to it it still has to be connected to the usb port in order to see them or hear them. It is basically a portable tool that you can carry with you and use on any computer that has usb ports. It's kind of like carrying around 3 1/2 disks only mine holds 256mb and is the size of a small bic lighter. (much thinner). I have copied 177 floppy disks to it and still have room for more.

Hope that helps.

p.s. when you plug it in it shows on your files as "removable disk." You can drag and drop files and music and videos right into it. Also, they're not that expensive anymore. Check out this site:

Flash drive is nice , because you can carry it anywhere, but it is not cheap.

No, you dont put it back in your computer, but you do need a protable player that takes flash drives.
