GOKU WOULD WIN!!!
10 reasons:
1. Superman has a weakness, Goku's tail isn't his weakness anymore.
2. In the movie, Superman dodge the gun when thrown at him. why did he dodge it? when he didn't dodge the bullets!!! maybe he was too scared coz the gun is big enough! lol!
3. Superman needs to regenrate power from the sun, Goku became more powerful in every battle.
4. Superman flies from one place to another while Goku can use instant transmission! He can teleport even in the universe or to another dimension!
5. Lex Luther is just an ordinary bald guy yet he kicked Superman's asssssssss!
6. Superman takes time to change his awful costume before saving the world.
7. Goku can regenerate life (the dead bird in the movie 5), superman needs to turn back the time in order to save Lois Lane's Life and pretend it didn't happen.
8. I bet Superman can't beat Cell. hahahaha...
9. Superman didn't train in the afterlife! hahahaha!!!
10. Superman doesn't know kung-fu!

So we have Superman, the famous superhero who's powers are to fly, he's super strong, super fast, and he has laser beams coming out of his eyes. He is also bullet proof, and he could pick up mountains and throw them if he wanted to. All his characteristics make Superman the ideal superhero in my oppinion. Now on the other hand we have Goku, a Saiyan that fights against evil just like Superman does. Now Goku has more stages, and all his abilities increase enourmosly with each increase in stage. His stages are Saiyan (normal stage), Super Saiyan (SSJ), Super Saiyan 2 (SSJ2), Super Saiyan 3 (SSJ3) and Super Saiyan 4 (SSJ4). He also has the Ultimate Super Saiyan form and the Oozaru and the Golden Oozaru, but I'm not gonna go into that since the fight takes place at a SSJ4 stage. Ok, so in his normal stage, Goku can do anything that Superman can, fly, super speed, super stong, eye laser beams, doesn't get hurt easily, plus a few more, such as the Kamehameha and The Spirit Bomb. Also, Goku can sense the Ki energy or really strong fighters, and since Superman is really strong, then he will have enourmous power, and therefore Goku would know even before the fight has started what he need to take Superman down, and also, he would be able to sense Superman anywhere he goes, and which Superman can't. Now lets say that Superman is at his very best, then I'll say that that's equivalent to Goku's SSJ form, although I'm pushing it a bit, since Superman can't move faster then the speed of light at any point, and also he's not able to destroy plantes, with a single blast especially, two things Goku can do with ease as a SSJ.
Now you said that the battle is between Superman, and SSJ4 Goku, well then clearly the fight goes to Goku. I also wanna clear any confusion in power levels. Superman can't destroy things bigger then mountains. Goku, as SSJ can destroy any planet he wants, even a star, as our Sun. Now at SSJ4, Goku is able to destroy the whole universe at a blink of an eye. He is also able to use Instant Translocation, and teleport himself instantily and place he wanted to. He can even go in the Other World if he wants to. So yeah, the creator of the Dragonball Z/Gt, just gave TOO much power to its fighter so that's the only reason Superman doesn't stand a chance, not even with help from The Justice League. So, if Superman attacks SSJ4 Goku, and Goku doesn't even bother moving, he wouldnt even have a scratch on. Also no matter how fast Superman is flying around, Goku can see him, since he's used to keep up with faster fighter, or if not, he can sense whereever Superman is. With all that said, this fight goes to Goku... as a Super Saiyan 4.
Winner: Goku (Super Saiyan 4 or not)

allright. for starters Superman is a god. he gets his powers from the sun. and hesbeen charged like a battery for some 30 years or whatever.
Goku on the other hand uses Chi or chakra. inner strength. in other words he has an exhaustable supply and tires faster then superman.
superman is strong can fly shoot energy eyebeams is resistant to damage(but not immune enough punishment can hurt him)
Goku is strong can fly and shoot energy attacks too. he is resistant to damage but not on the same scale as superman. (in fact if hes not paying attention a simple smack to the back of the head can take him out as seen in his fight with majin vegeta)
goku however does get stronger every time hes defeated while supermans power grows at a steady rate. then it will eventually wind down as he gets older.
we've seen superman like whole mountains and cities. while we've watched goku struggle with lifting a building(as seen in DBGT)
honestly goku would put up a good fight. super saiyan or not but in the end a near unlimited superman would kill him.

As much as I hate all that Dragon ball crap, in a fight Goku would win. Superman is vulnerable to magic, and those crazy sayans (sp?) are a magical kung-fu bunch. As for who is a better character, Superman is.
