Would there have been as much controversy as there was since the comment was made on Foreign soil.

I don't think that you are understanding the question. I'm not talking about the fact that they said what they said...I want to know if there would have been such an uproar if the remark had been made in Dallas or Atlanta instead of London.

No. It was a powerful statement of disrespect precisely because it was overseas.

I have no respect for them, and watching them try to patch things up and schmooze their way back into favor (and profit) amuses me.

President Bush responded to the controversy surrounding the Dixie Chicks in an interview with Tom Brokaw on April 24:

"[T]he Dixie Chicks are free to speak their mind. They can say what they want to say ... They shouldn't have their feelings hurt just because some people don't want to buy their records when they speak out ... Freedom is a two-way street ... I ... don't really care what the Dixie Chicks said. I want to do what I think is right for the American people, and if some singers or Hollywood stars feel like speaking out, that's fine. That's the great thing about America. It stands in stark contrast to Iraq ..."

They don't have to keep quite, even the President said so ...

I think the uproar would still have occured. There has been a very real decrease in the amount of 'free speech' allowed in your country (and by your citizens) for the last 5 years or so.

The Dixieshits make about as much difference to world politics as a bed bug, regardless of the country they are in.

I think they are great and applaud their bravery. The Bush administration is as crooked as they come, and it is time we all stood up and were counted. Libermann bit the dust due to his support ...now it is time to clean the entire house and senate, and not stop until the highest office has a good cleaning also. Good luck

Yes, maybe even moreso. But good for them for saying what they believe and sticking to their ground, even back then when it wasn't a popular belief.

The Dixie Chicks rock!
