I was kind of wondering because I've been in situation where I'm seeing one unattractive girl after another, and then I'll see one and go "Hey, she's not bad.." and pretty soon it might be "Hmmm, yeah she's even kind of hot."

If I saw that girl in a different situation though, would I still think that or does the environment shape the opinion of people?

I use in work on oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. During one Loooong stretch (30-35 days) out there with a bunch of hard legs we had a 6', 230lb., ooogly woman fly out to inspect some valves. Ima tell ya' there wasn't a dude on that platform that didn't take a hard lustful look at that BIG A*S*S!!!

Everything being relative, you would most likely choose the best looking girl in the room. So, even if they are all ugly, some would be uglier than others and you could be attracted to the least ugly girl.
You only have those choices and the environment would make a difference.

If you are looking for a long-term partner, then you are looking at the wrong things. That said, I will agree that attractiveness is relative. In the military, in isolated duty stations or on deployments, the women or men that you might not have thought of as attractive in any normal situation start to look good, because there is no selection available. I more often experience the effect of personality on my view of their attractiveness. There have been many men that I initially thought were attractive, but after spending any amount of time with them, I couldn't see an ounce of handsome in them. Other men have seemed less than impressive in terms of attractiveness, but after getting to know them, they have been downright irresistible.

Alright a scenario...
You get up in the morning...shower, dress and make your way to the kitchen for some breakfast. While showering you have had your mind set on a bowl of cereal with a cut up banana in it for your breakfast. Digging around in the cupboard you realize you are out of cereal. Annoying but there is still a half dozen bananas, you can manage. The bananas have all started to turn over ripe though... to the point that they are almost rotten, but there is a mushy one that aged slower than the rest. You are hungry, don't have anything else to eat in the house and aren't going to be able to stop for food until way later in the day. Faced with the prospect of crashing blood sugars and grumbling stomach cramps you grab and eat the mushy banana.
In that environment of mushy rotten food you had to chose for sustenance or face painful hunger.
In a world of ugly women you have to chose for companionship or face painful solitude.
So the women may all be butt ugly in your eyes but there is going to be one that escaped the wrath of the fuglies by comparison. Problem is your theory is not sound regarding so many ugly women in one location. Here is a fundamental law of the space time continuum
The B.U.F.F. (Butt Ugly Female Friend) *may also be known as D.U.F.F. (Designated Ugly Female Friend)
This is a female that is mandatory in all female groups. Her looks and lack of fashion sense are needed to maintain a balance in the courtship universe. Her role is to make the others of the group look good by comparison.
She may also be used as a shield against unwanted male advances. A typical response of an uninterested attractive female may be; "I'm like actually seeing like someone ya know? Like my other friend BUFF I mean like Gertrude is like available. Like you two would look so like great together!"
**Males take note if the girl you are interested in pushes you off onto her groups BUFF no harm done. If that girl says you would look great together, consider plastic surgery you may be hideous.

Based on that law of ugly there is not possibly that many ugly females are in one location. Therefore you may have to lower your standards. Or if you are interested in a certain ethnic group you may have to relocate to an area where there is a more concentrated population. Example: My co-worker loves Brazilian women and their backsides. There is a low population density of Brazilian women in NE Ohio so he will need to move to Brazil to meet his standards.

Good luck!

No such thing as an ugly girl, she just needs to learn how to use makeup. Be careful what you wish for, she might be hot on the out side but nasty on the inside

Yes, that's why I try not to hang around girls more attractive than me, LOL!!

Actually, I think there is truth in what you're saying. I think it depends how long they're in the room together, though. And, there are some people that are going to stay fugly no matter how long you look at them.

You're convoluted idea of what make a girl ugly or not is shaping your opinions....remember, beauty is only skin deep and inner beauty with a "plain" girl is better then a beautiful girl who's filled with ugliness!

I hope, for your sake, you haven't overlooked your soulmate because she didn't happen to be like the cover of GQ's swimsuit issue.

My advice? Quit looking at the outside as the best judge of a woman and get to know her. Chances are, the more you know her mind, the more beautiful she will be to you.

Hopefully, they're not looking at you the same way you are looking at them. Shallow Hal... good movie... watch it.

Well, what shapes your opinion? Do you judge others based on the company they keep? Are your opinions so easily changeable that you can like a girl one day and dislike her the next, based solely on who she's standing next to?

Uh, maybe if you're ugly. Nah, I dunna know. I guess guys eventually settle. Personality should matter most, but there's plenty of ugly types. Bad dresser, overweight, synical, bad plastic surgery, rude, etc.
