Because we're more empowered these days. Many more of us can vote instead. Also, people have found collecting signatures to be easier and more effective than actually holding a disruptive protest. There are just far more effective ways of getting things done. People used to protest more because they didn't used to have more effective ways of changing things.

It's not fear. It's empowerment. We don't need to be disruptive if we already have enough power.

Americans haven't stopped protesting, they just don't get media coverage unless thousands show up. Go to Washington D.C. on any given day and you will see all kinds of protesters.

Because a protest accomplishes nothing but getting alot of kids to yell and scream. Then they go home, and most of working America doesn't know or care what they were yelling about, didn't watch it on the news and won't watch it tomorrow
