Most of them know and like the show. Others don't watch it enough and just hear that its popular and a comedy show - they think it will be an easy interview.
Also, they are sure to get publicity if they go on. And ANY publicity is good publicity, to a degree.

It's true that many of them are fans of the show, and are just (like anyone who loves Jon or Stephen) jumping at their chances to be interviewed by the man they sea everynight on Comedy Central.
Now some, have never seen the show, these people are simply senators political figures wishing to put their name out there. Really, no one can resist a camera and a microphone, even if that means going through someone as tough as Stephen Colbert to get your name/face out there.
Some of these people actually BELIEVE that they have intelligent things to say, and intelligent words to back these things up. The biggest example of some douche thinking that he could rise beyond the wrath of Colbert, was the man who was pro-putting up the 10 commandment everywhere around public property, but couldn't name over 4 commandments.
It is a sad world of politics, but at least we have satirists and fake news correspondents to uncover SOME of the idiots from the real women and men of politics out there...whom of which are very rare. ^_^

Theyre just doing it in good fun. Think of it like the friars club roasts. It gets them face time with the younger generations and helps to create political dialogue and interest. Im sure you know Steven Colbert was invited to the white house for an event with the president and other top ranking officials. It shows that everyone has a sense of humor, even our officials. Also, I enjoy cocaine and prostitutes because its a fun thing to do.

... because they watch the shows and they have a sense of humor...
many say "I love the show"...
sometimes I wonder why certain conservatives go on though...
Do people that use the word "libturd" have a place to call anyone misinformed? Kind of like a hillbilly with two teeth telling you that your smile isn't very white?

Liberals are a joke. Why are you so surprised when they show up on a comedy show?
