My son, now 6, is the greatest of kids. We don't allow TV and he reads, learns things with us and by himself, he is still so innocent like every child should be.
At 2, my son loved being read to. Any Sandra Boynton book with rhymes. They are into sounds and rhyme at that age. (They will also chew on the books).
Have fun. They grow very fast.

a set of puzzles I never out grow them! they are great!
I know there are age limits for some puzzles and grownup out grow them but as kids they will love the heck out of them it is a great way to spend time. When my Father was living he died in 2002 at 83 years old (I miss him :-( ) Every Friday we would get a puzzle down and work on it as a family! it was the funnest time family time.
and it is something I will never outgrow .

I think maybe a Disney video game. You'd be surprised how sophisticated children are nowadays, even if they are doomed to a life of illiteracy.

Wooden blocks, both my kids liked to see how high they could stack at that age. They also liked to knock down everything I made.

How much are you looking to spend? I would suggest either play tools that are age appropriate, a play cash register or a beginner's t-ball set.
