Saxophone, 31 years
Trombone, 27 years (also Euphonium and Tuba)
Piano, 21 years
Guitar, 27 years
Bass, 15 years (very easy transition, frankly)
Irish/Tin Whistle, 8 years
Ukulele, 2 years
Drums (trap), 2 years
Also recently took up the Uilleann pipes, but lordy if it doesn't sound like I'm killing the neighborhood cat!

My primary instrument over the years really has been my voice, for the last 23 years, with 5 years of classical training.

I have a little home studio, and generally have to play all my own parts anyway, so if anything new comes up, I've got to learn that too...

I started playing violin when I was three years old. I stopped when we moved to California and couldn't find a violin teacher, but when I got to high school, I played violin again for the school orchestra. I no longer have a violin, nor do I have any interest in it.

When we couldn't find a violin teacher, I took up piano instead. My teacher was part of the Music Teacher's Association of California, so I competed regularly throughout junior high and high school, and I received my "10 year pin" when I graduated and left for college. I still play from time to time.

During college, I received a guitar (acoustic) as a present. I casually strum a bit, but I never did get good with it. I still have the guitar, but I haven't touched it in a while.

I played clarinet starting in the third grade up until the tenth grade in high school (that was back in the 70's) and just started playing again about 6 years ago. Currently am trying to learn the oboe on my own, but I can see lessons down the road (double reed is definitely harder to play than a single reed).

Also learned the piano in ninth grade and continued for two more years before giving it up to learn to play the tuba. Joined the marching band in my senior year. Fun time.

Well, I'm 52, and over the years I've taught myself to play guitar, piano, bass, and drums. I also sing. I tried banjo, mandolin, and flute at various stages of my life, but they didn't stick. Good luck with the bass. It's probably one of the easiest self-taught instruments. Just turn on your stereo and play along. It may take a while to figure out what's going on, but you'll be surprised how fast you can pick it.

I play the keyboard.
I took classical piano lessons for almost three years when I was a kid, then a kept playing without lessons for 4 years after that.
about a year ago I started playing metal keyboard.
There's practically no difference except that you have to harmonize with a guitar instead of showing off solo.

I can play the violin, the flute and the piano and also the guitar a lil. Oddly i cant read music though, im apparently one of the low percentage of people that can play by ear, if i hear a song played once then i can instantly play the song myself, its something im told my grandfather could do too and its supposed to be a rare Talent.
