I don't think it is more okay as you say for men, if anything I think things are probably harder on gay men than gay women. But I also think that societys acceptance of lesbians isn't actually that at all. People think its hot for girls to make out and be together with a guy, but you don't ever hear about how hot Rosie O'donnell is do you. Guys like the two hot sexy girls but I don't really think guys or anyone else are really into the whole two moms household and two woman getting married type thing.

Hmm.. in my experience straight people accept a lesbian better.. until it's proven that she's serious, lol. Lesbians are more accepted at large simply because people don't believe them, in their minds they simply shuffle them into the 'if they had a good man' category or the 'I'd like to have two women at the same time' porn category. Once they realise she really is a 'real' lesbian.. then the bad reactions come along like an avalanche. Maybe it's not what you meant in your question.. but I sure have noticed that you are right that men are more accepted.. in the gay community. Everywhere you look.. on posters, adverts, advice pages, support groups.. it's always the guys in the pictures or writing the articles. Curious, isn't it? that a group of people so adamantly against discrimination.. still leaves the women in the background? *grins and waits for the fallout from that statement*

I do not think so. You must not be looking at the picture clear. Gay men are discriminated against more so than women. Lesbians are the fantacies of every straight man! Woman kissing is not a big deal and most think it is hot! Men kissing is a different story. Men kissing stirs anger and is not accepted behavior among heteros unlike their hypocrytic acceptance of lesbianism. All I have to say to you is that if you are a woman and gay and think you got it rough you need to wake up sister and look again. Great Question BTW.

Maybe it's because they think of gay men as being weak and more of the funny harmless gay guy friend like thing while lesbian women seem stronger and want more rights and to raise children, therefore having a different kind of family and then they would have to deal with the difference in their day to day lifes. But that is just my guess. Some of that is sterotyping and being scared of the unknown and change.

Im not too sure that you are correct about this statement, it may seem that way to you, but the truth is, its really more "acceptable" for women to be lesbian than men to be gay. Theres a more intense feeling about women being together than men, Most men do not want it but will accept women doing this kinda thing, believe it or not. To me, it just seems more, how do I say this, more believeable for two women, because of the closeness that women share with each other. Holding hands in public, going to the restroom together, that kinda thing. Men expect this more from girls than themselves. Thats the way i see it, the "closeness" and "sisterhood" is what makes it more acceptable.

It's a matter of whose field it's raining on!
I know in most communities, a lesbian would be much more welcome in the local pub than a gay dude. People would let a lesbian babysit their kid. It's an accepted fact (not an accurate one, just an accepted one) that female PE teachers are lesbians, but a gay male teacher is very suspect, and he'd NEVER be allowed near the locker rooms!

I usually think it is the other way around.
Maybe gay men are more accepted where you live than lesbians are not because of their sexuality but because of their personalities. Maybe the people who are giving the lesbians problems just don't like them as people and use the sexual orientation as a taunt because it is socially acceptable.
Gay bashing has nothing to do with the sexual orientation of the victim. It has everything to do with the mental illness of the basher.

I have found that it is the other way around. It might be that lesbian relationships tend to be more stable than gay ones, more resembling heterosexual marriages. I've also found that lesbians just seem to fit in better into the workplace. I think straight men especially don't see them as a threat. Just my viewpoint.

i could not generalize, yet my astounding pal is a gay guy and he's freaking astounding. even in spite of the undeniable fact that a lesbian myself, i do not get to spend that a lot time with different lesbians, so i'd not comprehend. instantly women must be rather cool. As for instantly adult men... purely in my opinion talking, they have all been dull, with an exception or 2.

It's totally the other way around! For the straight world, it's ok to see two women kissing and having sex, hugging in public, holding hands etc, but gay men cannot do any of that in public except in Castro or places like that. It is a screwed up world.
