have such beautifully tightly formed joints. In Cuzco and the Sachsauhaman (fortress above the city ,with some stones, 60 tons or more) have been moved from distant locations and are fitted so perfectly together.

In Cuzco, a wall with a 13-cornered stone--amazes me.

My question is: do you know of examples of superior work by some other civilizations?

There may be more to that question than you realize. The Incas never claimed credit for building their most impressive monuments. When the Conquistadors found the Incas in what is now South America. Many of the Catholic priests who came with them were specifically their as historians and anthropologists -- granted they're also responsible for the destruction of people and history). They could not figure out *how* the Incas could have done any of this, since they lacked the technology and seemed to the lack the required knowledge -- even the Incas themselves said they didn't build them. Who did? It is the same question with the Egyptian pyramids, but it doesn't stop there. There are dozens of early civilizations where the origin of their monuments defy any understanding.

One great author and his website I recommend is:

It's kind of funny because you are so close to this other civilization.
Check out Mayan structures.

below is a link to a great place to start.

Of course if you're into something more modern, check out the works of Frank Loyd Wright

Ancient Indian Architecture is amazing to me in that it is so decorative and made with great attention to detail. Every surface in ancient temples tells a story about the religion practiced there.

Angkor Wat in Cambodia is incredibly beautiful and complex - it is designated by UNESCO as world cultural heritage site.

The Angkor Wat temple consists of a towering complex of terraces and small buildings that are arranged in a series of three diminishing stories and surmounted by five towers. The roofed and unroofed structures are covered with bands of finely carved stone sculptures. The walls are covered with carved reliefs that illustrate Hindu mythology, principally scenes relating to the god Vishnu, to whom the temple was dedicated. The "mass of bas-relief carving is of the highest quality and the most beautifully executed in Angkor." All the temple mountains of Angkor were filled with three-dimensional images and every inch of the walls are covered by sculptures.
