I previously live in California and 3 years ago I moved to Idaho now California says I owe back taxes for the year 2002, what can they do if I don’t pay?

File a tax lien, which goes on your credit report.

They can also attach any assets you have in California, including any income being generated in California.

If they really get snippy, they can ask the other state court to recognize the tax lien and attach your assets in the other state.

Failure to pay taxes is a crime. They can legally garnish your wages. You could also face other penalties, such as fines and/or jail time. Your best bet is to work out a payment plan and pay them. Your credit won't be devastated that way.

oh well, chances are they won't find you. i don't know what the time period is, either four or seven years, if you haven't been caught by then you don't pay... look it up.
