The paycheck was on direct deposit and was late getting posted to the person's account.

The receiving bank is the one responsible for posting the check to the account. Sounds like a ridiculous reason to fire someone, though. Check out the National Labor Relations Board website. www.nlrb.gov

it depends on what state. in cali work is at will which means an employee and employer may quit, fire, hire at any time for any reason.
***I think that ur leaving a big chunk of your story out, why would you want to fire someone for your fault of depositing their payheck late. They are entitled to their earned money at the date promised or agreed.

Sounds like ur at fault and its totally byotchy to fire someone cuz U were the one at fault to avoid blaming urslef. Either that or ur PMSing, either way still soooo totally not cool of you!

did they fire you because you asked where your paycheck was?

Some states, according to law, don't have to give you a reason for their letting you go.

I don't know what set them off. Maybe you do.

I would think there is no way possible to get fired just for asking where your pay check is. It is your right to know, it is your business. I would assume that if you can prove that you got fired over that, you could get your boss/company in trouble.

I'm thinking there's probably more to the story than what you have provided, however, most employment is considered "at will", meaning that either party can end employment for any reason at any given time.

of course not; unless you live in a right to work state; then they can literally do just about anything they want including making you owe them money... that's a fact, and they get away with it too. do you have any hard core evidence? or can they twist it any way they want and make it your word against theirs?

Most employment is "at will". Unless you have a formal contract, you can be terminated at any time for any reason. Or for no reason at all.
