Only apply early decision if the college is a real "reach" school for you. If it's one that you're 75% sure you are going to get into, don't do the ED thing, it will only limit your choices. If, however, your parents are wanting you to apply ED to a school that you don't think you stand much of a chance of getting in through the traditional route, say MIT or Harvard, and going to that school makes a lot of sense, go ahead and apply.
If your parents get too pushy, accuse them of not wanting to pay for a measly 7 application fees.

No, only if you are locked into a college...hey, there is a game they play called "better decide now or you may miss out," that is entirely not the case for most coleges. I would wait until the scholarship offers come in in the late winter and decide in March. Really, just make sure your paper work is in asap and then make sure your scholarship paper work is in...in the mean time, just visit the three or four most realistic and likely choices..and remember, nobody with half a brain pays the application fee these days...at those college fairs and visits, make sure you get the no fee wavers.
Now get real and decide on some things, narrow it down, and don't let your parents pressure you into a bad choice, while all the time listen to what they have to say because, damn, they know a hell of a lot more aboout life that you do.

if the college you apply to isnt the one you DEFIANTLY want to go to..dont apply early decision becuase if they accept you, you are forced to go there and retract all applications to other colleges. I know parents can be very stressful but dont live your life according to what they want you to do. Make your own decisions or you will never be happy
