I have always known her to be the least racist among all the people I know. However, talking to her today, she said something that I feel is very racist, and she says that it's not racist at all. She said: "I would never date a black man." We are both caucasian. Now, I feel that this is very racist and was very shocked that she said it.

I, personally, think that a black man is as equally sexy as a white or mexican or any other race of person. If they are sweet and kind, they are a good person no matter what their race is.

Can anyone explain why she said this even if she says she isn't racist?

Also, do you feel that what she said is racist? Or am I overreacting?

By the way, I asked her and she said she had no reason. She had just got finished watching the Dr. Phil show and it showed a black man who was a con artist who married several different women to get their money. They also had a white man, but she didn't say anything about him. (I also watched Dr. Phil.)

Also, I have known her almost all my life, and I know her religion and everything, and her parents have no problem with other races or anything like that.

First off EVERYONE is racist to a degree.... towards someone, of any race, etc... You're not overreacting because it's understandable to want an explanation for how your BEST FRIEND can think like that... makes you question how well you know her. If she wasn't racist she wouldn't say that. Some people make up their own minds and others continue the tragedy of racism. Some of us are lucky and our parents don't teach us that crap, while others (like me) are ingrained to believe that. Alot of it is taught to kids and they grow up with the racism and don't think about it, it's just a part of them. Especially in small towns. While it might not seem like a big issue to some, you have to wonder what would happen if you were with a black man.... would she still be your friend or not? There's a lot of variables involved and I guess part of what makes us all unique is what we feel and believe in. Anyways, it is racist to say that!

Its not being racists at all...I feel the same way...I would never date outside my race...or the boy have to have some kinda black in him...but its just her preference...you know?...I do not feel what she says is racists because I feel the same way about my race...there are some white boys that I have found attractive...not many, but as far as dating them I wouldnt go that route...you know?...So girl ur just overreacting...you friend is right...so dont think that she is racist...okay?...hey and dont be shocked either....a lot of people feel the same way as she does.

I think you are overreacting. If it really bugs you ask her why she would never date a black man. I know lots of people that I do not consider racist that would not date out of there race for a number of reasons. I also know people that only date outside of there race.

This alone does not mean that she is racist. People are attracted to whom they are attracted to, some people its skin tone, some people its hair color, or body type, or certain features, and some its personality.

Just depends on the person.

Maybe it is just a matter of taste and what she should have said was that she was not attracted to black men if she was truly racist it probably would have come out before now.

Well, you can be nonracist and still not want to date someone of a different color. I have plenty of guy friends who I am very close to who are "black", but I would never even think of dating them. That's not racist, it's common sense, and it's also against some people's religion.

Im not racist andI dont see my self dating certain raced people, they just arent my taste.
Nothing wrong with that, if its just a preferance thing.
Now if she was saying that she wouldnt date someone black because she though that the black race was inferior then she would be racist. ( I dont think that)
