Bra size is determined by both a band size (e.g., 36) and a cup size (e.g., C) to come up with the bra size (e.g., 36-C). There are several ways to measure both elements.

1. Measure your "band" size.
- Measure around your upper chest (right under your armpits and above your breasts).
- E.g., the measurement is 35.25 inches. According to many bra manufacturers' instructions, take this measurement and discard any fraction. Thus, 35.25" becomes just 35".
- If the result is an odd number, round up to the next even number, in this case a 36".

2. Alternative Band Size.
- Measure your band size by measuring the ribcage just below your breasts.
- E.g., your measurement is 31.5".
- Again, discard any fraction, leaving us with 31".
- Add 5" to the measurement if your ribcage is odd and 4" if it is an even number.
- In this case, we are also at a 36" band size.

3. Measure cup size.
- Measure across measure across the fullest part of a breast (across the nipple), starting at the outside of the breast crease and going to the inside of the crease.
- The Right Bra measuring system allocates a cup size to each measurement.

7" = A cup; 8" = B cup; 9" = C cup; 10" = D cup ; 11" = DD cup; 12" = DDD (E cup).

- Be noted that the Right Bra cup size measurements in step 3 are most accurate for women with band sizes in the 34 and 36 range.

Following is a easy list of sizes:-

32" band: 6" = A cup; 6 1/2" = Full A
32" band: 7" = B cup; 7 1/2" = Full B
32" band: 8" = C cup; 8 1/2" = Full C
32" band: 9" = D cup; 9 1/2" = Full D

34" band: 6 1/2" = A cup; 7" = Full A
34" band: 7 1/2" = B cup; 8" = Full B
34" band: 8 1/2" = C cup; 9" = Full C
34" band: 9 1/2" = D cup; 10" = Full D

36" band: 7" = A cup; 7 1/2" = Full A
36" band: 8" = B cup; 8 1/2" = Full B
36" band: 9" = C cup; 9 1/2" = Full C
36" band: 10" = D cup; 10 1/2" = Full D

38" band: 9 1/2" = C cup
38" band: 10 1/2" = D cup

Deedee is right... everyone else's answers suck. It is the measurement around your body right below your breasts. If you take a measuring tape, wrap it around your body right below your breasts (not on your breasts), whatever # you come out with would be for example the 34 in 34D. Its what your supposed to be but depending on the store you could put on a 34D and it might be too tight. Just depends who makes the bra's. And its the same way for the cup size... and normal stores I'm a large C... and at places like La Senza I have to try on D's.

34 is the measurement around the fullest part of the bust.

The letter is derived by measuring the chest underneath the breasts and subtrtacting the difference, each inch difference one cup size.

So, if the measurement is 30, you have four inches difference or a "D" size

The number is how many inches around your upper chest. Take a measuring tape and circle it around your upper chest, at the fullest part of your bosom. The number in inches is your bra size.
