I just spend 80 dollars for symmetic Internet security and system works which includes a firewall, antivirus, spyware/adware protection, spam blocker, Norton clean up, etc. I also set it on a timer which fragments, scans for viruses and other security risks, deletes all cache and temporary files, etc every night when I don’t use the computer.

It's probably a bit more than you need, but it won't hurt. Symantec Internet Security is probably one of the best all-around packages there is. I don't use system works myself, but it will help you keep organized. Make sure you update things regularly, and renew when it runs out.

I run Norton Anti virus, Anti Spy Ware program, and a Firewall as well. I also run a pop-up blocker. That's just the BARE MINIMUM you need to go on the Internet today. I don't know for sure, but I bet that your package of Norton's includes a pop-up blocker. If not then go to Google.com and download their toolbar.

Norton's works very well. I have come to a popular site that has been hit by a few viruses. When the virus tried to download itself Norton's blocked it and stuck the infected files into its quarantine file (C:Program Files/Norton/Quarantine--you should clean it out if you get hit by a virus and it is quarantined, so you can get it off your machine.) Norton puts it there so if you really need the file you can try to clean it. Norton's also good about updating itself weekly, without you having to remember to do it.

I bought my packages separately, but with an integrated package like Norton you made a good investment. Find out how much it costs to renew your subscription each year. I think I have to pay around $40-$50 for mine.

Norton's has been in the business for a long time and they are a very trustworthy company. If you are not a computer pro then buying the Norton's package is a very good idea. It is possible to get a better deal, but you would have to hunt for it and know what you are doing. I use a router so the firewall isn't that necessary, but I like mine because it monitors what programs run on the machine. So when a suspicious program tries to do something the Firewall catchs it and asks for my permission to let it run. I can teach it which programs to now worry about. I don't know if the Norton Firewall has this feature check out your Documents. Your package should also have a Cookie Control function. The best minimum setting is to have it reject third party cookies. Usually these are from sites that want to track which websites you visit, again check out your Documents (the instructions, the Help File, or the Norton Web Site--each one should cover the features I mentioned, if the Norton Package has it).

All in all I say---GOOD GOING, make sure that you have it programed for a weekly virus and adware scan (it might have done it automatically).

There is no such thing as too much when it comes to protecting your PC (I should know as Im a security pro). You are taking the correct steps to keeping your computer secure. However, I would not be caught DEAD spending that much on security software! Everything that you have there is availible for FREE from different programs, and to tell you the truth, Norton Anti-Virus, is not good. Below I will list a group of products that you could have used instead of paying all that cash!

Anti-Virus- AVG Free Edition

Adware- AdWare SE Professional or Windows Defender

Firewall-This is a tricky one, but the truth is, if you configure Windows Firewall right, it is just as good if not better than the one you paid for.

Registry Cleaner- Registry Fix (This is a program that costs money, but if you have the right connections, someone maybe able to score you the "Regional Key" that will work with it).

That is definitely a good idea. I allow about 99% of the programs when I get the firewall alerts. However, if I see something with a suspicous name such as 180 solutions (advertising name), or some weird long name like n000000000000008 then that sets off the alarm bell and I lookup the name of the program on Google to see if it's spyware. If you find out it's spyware, then block it.

I really don't think that you can do too much to protect your computer. There are new viruses every day and some systems do not keep up very well on updating them. If you aren't experiencing any problems and you can afford to keep updating those systems when they expire then go for it.
