I just think some people just have a tendency to hate or dislike anyone or anything that is different than they are whether it be fat people, gay people, red people, etc.

When you walk down the street and really look around you will see lots of fat people. In fact, half of all North Americans are overweight. So why the big deal? We live in a world where food is glorified, offered around every corner, and is a central part of everyday life. Top all this off with the conviences we have come to expect, such as a corner store, at the very least, within walking distance in every neighbourhood, transportation of every description and all the good stuff that comes from being a part of the developed world and you have a recipie for how to make a population fat. I think that people hate fat people for their good fortune as in the case of the rest of the world particularly the those who have nothing to eat. If my children were starving I would probably hate fat people too. However within our own well to do relm, the media has a lot to do with our preception with what is desirable and what is not. The problem I see with this is the slim people who are protrayed as sexy on the TV, in magazines and on line represent only a fraction of the new world poplation. We are led to believe that slim and young is the way most people are that we have to be small to get what we want. Then we allow ourselves to be told what we want, how we should look and that more is always better. If we take a realistic look around we see that fat people abound in this society while poor underweight, impoverished people are far outnumber us. When someone looks at me and says "you put on a few!" I may get a little irritated, but ultimatly I think I am luckey to be so fortunate.

Being fat used to be a sign of exteme beauty because that meant you were wealthy. It probably has something ot do with that in some small genetic and disturbing way. I don't hate fat people but at times that put a burden on others and get in the way. I don't care if your fat and kind but I tend to find that most fat people at least where I live have nasty attitudes and think they are the best looking thing in the world so they wear cloths that are to small for them and you see all of that flab and extra skin and it makes my own skin crawl.

Alot of it has to do with the pressure society puts on us to look good. Unfortunately some people take it too seriously and resort to teasing and name calling. I have been overweight most of my life, not obesely but enough for the name calling. I eventually learned to ignore it and as I got older I learned how to "fight" back. Words are very powerful and if used correctly, you can put the name caller in their place.

I've been overweight since I was a child, and I what I've learned is that most people who make fun of fat people (or any other person for that matter) and just doing so to make themselves feel better. Most people don't hate fat people, and those that do likely have their own weight/self-esteem issues.

I think that some people think they are better because they are not fat. They probably think "if im skinny, they could be, their just lazy." Some people have lower metabolisms, or depression.... I cant wait for some of the brats in my class to get older and get a slower metabolism so they will stop judging others because they eat just as badly.

I've been overweight all my life, my whole family is overweight too. I've not so much gotten used to the teasing, just that I don't care anymore. I was tortured so much as a kid, that now, as a young adult, I tend to be as brutal to those who are brutal to me. My weight no longer bothers me as much anymore. I've got bigger problems on my plate to solve than how much I weigh.

Our society causes us to judge...learned behavior I believe. We are inundated with media and hype to be thin. Here's a twist for you, I used to be very thin and athletic, then I got fat. At 5'2 I weighed 200 lbs. My paternal gma was 4'10 and 200, my maternal gma was 5'7 and 250. They were both hard working farm women. I have lost over 40 pounds, but still look big to myself. I used to be disgusted looking at fat people, until I became one. Then I became disgusted with myself. Now I have adjusted my attitude, and am actually rather comfortable with myself. I would like to lose my belly, but that runs in my family too. So I have chosen to be happy no matter what my size, and quit obsessing about it. I used to be the one who was critical of fat people....Karma?

i think people like to target fat people because its an obvious and easy thing to attack. Weight issues scare people. People who are thin are terrified of being fat and I guess a way of dealing with that is to taunt people who are (immature i know). Then there are people who find sheer delight in upsetting others. I think you will find that people who tease fat people probably tease alot of other people for one thing or another.

because it's a sensitive matter to a lot of kids and we always tease each other on our sensitive sides. like my name is nida but since 6th grade every one of my friends spells it needa and puts some stupid stuff in the end like needa cookie or needa biscuit or stuff like that. they kno that if some one is fat best way to get them is so name call em about being fat. it has nothing to do with being "fat" only that most fat people have problem with it and kids take advantage of it. if you ignor it will probably go away on its own..i my self almost never do this but i have friends who do and i kno the only reason they do it to get anger out of the other person.....if you just pretend like w/e or ur loser attitude i kno it will go away

Who says they hate fat people? Its the fashion media, which helped bring in the fad for skinny people.... the less the flesh the more the demand. But how about having relationship with dry trunks of wood?
