for self induction, so i figured hey im full term why not try it just to see what happens, well so far i've felt a few faint contractions but the thing that weirded me out the most is that i had at least an ounce of colostrum expressed from my left breast by the time i was done and i only did it for like ten minutes! is that weird? i mean this is my second pregnancy and i don't remember being able to express that much colostrum from my breasts before having my baby. what do ya'll think? is that a sign that im close or what?

Yeah it's possible to express some colustrum before you deliver, especially when you're aggresively stimulating the nipples. This is not a sign that labor is eminent, though, because some women see colostrom leaking in the very early months of pregnancy and that's without any stimulation at all.

I would advise against this technique for self-induction, though. Why? Because to get contractions strong enough to touch off real labor would take you hours upon hours. Your hand will be so tired it will fall off and I don't even want to think of the tenderness and discomfort for your nipples. Arrrghhh! And even then, it's not guaranteed to work so you could tax yourself for nothing and have raw breasts.

Just wait another week or two or try some of the old tricks that people swear by but are not scientfically proven (vigorous walks, intercourse, etc.).

Possibly, If your due date is close I would suggest freezing it and feed to your baby the more they get the better! The first few days that you nurse it is only colostrum which babies need to fight off colds and other infections if this is used the whole time until your milk comes in it should keep your baby healthy for the first 6 months. I did use an electronic breast pump I think they works better and it is easier on your hand and yes it helps.

Nipple stimulation to induce labour can set off really nasty contractiosn that don't actually get you anywhere but hurt like a *****! It's really not recommended.

I wouldn't think colostrum production had anything to do with how close you are. I leaked like a fountain from 18 weeks right through to the end, and I was a week late, and that was with my first.

yes, this can work, but why not go for the real natural approach and have you partner help you. And if you insist on going the breast pump route I hope you're saving the colostrum for when the baby actually arrives!

I have had colostrum leaking out of nipple since I was 20 weeks pregnant. My doctor said there was nothing to worry about that it is normal to do this. Good luck.

were you TRYING to use a breast pump last time you were pregnant? Maybe you're able to produce more because your body "remembers" I don't know. I've heard the whole mipple stimulation thing for inducing labor, it CAN work, but only if everything is ready to go anyway (so maybe you're only speeding up the process a couple hours?)
