That's a good one. The universe is not infinite but finite and unbounded. Outside the universe space and time do not exist. Space and time expand with the universe. It is expanding into nothing, absolutely nothing. Void, not space.

You must remember that the universe is expanding relative to time. Time exists in every place regardless whether it is occupied or not. Outside the universe, there exists no time therefore it is unimaginable and non existant, As the universe expands, time increases so only inside that universe will time exist and not outside. Since the universe is theoretically everything, and it's expanding, all you can really say is that everything within it is getting stretched apart. If the universe is already infinitely big, it could still be expanding in that sense.

Obviously, the universe (stars, planets, moons, debris, etc.) isn't "everything." And from all indications, the known universe is expanding - into space. If space is defined as the entity between the masses, then it could be argued that it doesn't exist without the stars and planets - hence, the expansion is creating the space.......mind boggling, eh?

Excellent question, our best scientists can only speculate about the nature of whatever is 'outside' the known universe. We will need a better understanding of what we do have before we could really start to theorize about what might be outside our reality.
