let me add.... I don't want someone to write the poem for me. i understand that would make it not really from my heart. but I have a rough draft of what I want to say and i basically just want someone to help me smooth it out. but i totally agree, i want it to be from my heart. sometimes i just have an easier time if i have someone to talk too....

Yours is a tender story and one that should be put to paper. Begin composing your poem using the words you feel express your thoughts the best.

Rhyming your stanzas is good for poetry, but not always required as free prose. Strive for balance and rhythm as you form each stanza and upon its completion, go back and edit until all your spelling and punctuation is correct.

Then contact another poet and ask for a critique. Asking close friends and relatives isn't the best approach because they'd hesitate at giving you the truth. You need the truthful critique, not one to gloss you over with empty praise that will mislead you.

I wish you success with the poem. After its critique and you've polished it to the best of your ability, frame and present it to your husband.

I think it is a wonderful idea and he would appreciate it very much.

Since you have no deadline for this project, may be you could spend extra time and do a ton of research on the Internet, library, book stores...etc.

Do check out this book:
Man are from Mars, Women are from Venus
especially chapter 11 -- How to communicate difficult feelings.

It has very good advice on how to write love notes, you have to put in your own words of course.

The link is the dictionary / thesaurus site to help you out.

Have you thought of finding song lyrics to express what you feel? Make a Google search, copy the music that expresses what you want to say, (make sure you let him know by writing at the end or telling him who wrote the song) then put it in something very special for him--flowers, art you make, candle, whatever. Good luck!

I hate to go away from what you want but maybe showing your love by doing something that you are better at would actually be better.

Just because your husband is good at poetry doesn't mean you have to do it this time.

I think instead of writing him a poem, you should give him another type of gift. It should be something from your heart. A good meal? A vigorous night of lovemaking? Maybe you are a painter or craft designer? Maybe you can put together a killer scrapbook.

You are unique and your gift should be unique and from you.

i will give you two of mine you can take the credit if you like them

I LOSE MYSELF IN YOUR BEAUTIFUL EYES I CANT PULL AWAY EVEN IF I TRY
YOUR PERFECT IN EVERY WAY
THE THOUGHT OF YOU MAKES MY DAY
YOU CAME TO ME FROM THE HEAVENS ABOVE
YOU FLEW IN ON WINGS MY ANGEL OF LOVE
WHEN NOTHING SEEMS TO GO RIGHT
AND I CAN NO LONGER SEE THE LIGHT
I LOOK UPON YOUR ANGELIC FACE
AND I AM TAKEN AWAY TO A FAR BETTER PLACE
I CHERISH EVERY WORD YOU HAVE SAID
YOU MOVE ME LIKE THE MUSIC I PLAY IN MY HEAD
IN THIS WORLD OF FALSE TRUTHS
I KNOW ONLY ONE THING TO BE TRUE
I WOULD GIVE UP EVERYTHING JUST TO BE WITH YOU
this is one hope you like it

I'LL NEVER FORGET THE DAY WE MET
I KNEW YOU WOULD BE MINE MY HEART WAS SET
I HAD TO HAVE YOU AT ANY COST
NOW WITHOUT YOU I WOULD BE LOST
I LIVE EACH DAY WITH YOU IN MIND
FOREVER STRENGTHING THE TIES THAT BIND
I'LL CHAT NO MORE WITH OTHER MEN
CAUSE THIS IS NOW
AND THAT WAS THEN
YOU FILL EACH DAY WITH JOY AND LOVE
YOU MUST HAVE BEEN SENT FROM ABOVE
I THOUGHT GOD WAS SO UNJUST
THEN HE SENT ME YOU AND REGAINED MY TRUST
these are not much but maybe you can use them ..i like writing poetry also .. good luck

we have had our ups and downs, and our love has grown stronger over time. but time has proven that i will always be yours and you will always be mine. and lets not forget the good or the bad, look at the effect that they both have had.i want to love you and be with you the rest of my life, and i will love you forever through the joys and through the strife. you are my lover, friend, husband, and i vow to be a loving supportive wife. i love you!

i hope you like this, i didn't think i just typed it out. good luck.

i think using ur own words no matter how childish they might seem to u, will b the most impacting to do. becuz they r urs and from ur heart. althou some1 might feel the same it's still you to HIM. so...u should do u no matter wat. just in my opinion
