Usually it takes 28 days in between periods, but theeat is relative; plus is only three days before the 28 th day. i don't think you should worry about it.
It is actually curious because we are having our periods at the same time. Last month i had mine the 16 th it lasted almost 7 days, and i just started having my period today. It is important to tell you that in my case they found a 1.5 cm cyst, thanks to sonogram. I haven't gotten the time to go to the gynecologist with the results, but from what i have found in the Internet and from other people i should not worry about it. It is not a serious thing plus cyst are just sacks full of fluid that usually disappear by themselves.
Still if you feel this is not normal and your worried the best you can do is go to the doctor. He/she is the only one that can really tell you what is going on.

It might be dysfunctional uterine bleeding. You did not share your age, however if you are getting on toward peri-menopause (late 30's and beyond for most women), it is possible that your periods are naturally getting irregular.
If you are younger than that you may want to ask your doctor for a fasting insulin blood test . Insulin controls production of a lot of hormones and other things, and can possibly wonk out your menstrual cycles. Ask for a copy of your results. 10 or higher is abnormal for an adult.
Also ask for a saliva test. This test will tell you if any of your feminine hormones are not at the best levels. I do not like doctors who prescribe hormones for any feminine problem without testing first. When that happened to me - the shot he gave me switched me from low blood sugar to diabetes.

your cycle can vary, its not usually a sign of anything wrong, its not out of the ordinary that you are 5 days early.. my friend gained weight and she had her period, and then two weeks later it reappeared, it was just the change in her diet that caused it...
