First, what does she like right now? Eight year olds change their minds fairly rapidly, so ask her what her fave thing is right now and go with that. For example, if she said, Barbie, then you would theme the party using Barbie. Send out Barbie invitations (make them on your computer if you are trying to save money), and tell everyone that it is a Barbie party. Buy all Barbie decorations and matching balloons and go crazy. For a fun time passing activity you could have mini-makeovers with age appropriate "makeup", watch the latest Barbie adventure on DVD and so much more. Look up party games for girls on Yahoo search and you'll find tons. Just make sure to theme the whole day...everything. It makes a HUGE difference.

When my 10 year old daughter turned 8, we had a "Bratz" theme party. She invited 3 friends , who slept over. The girls painted nails, brushed hair, told stories, etc....Kids this age are so creative. Just supply the munchies, and sleeping area, and watch them go!!!

I would consider a theme on her favorite tv show or book. Provide games for the kids to play, rent a MoonWalk, serve her favorite food, hire a clown, and let the kids run wild. If all else fails; Chuck-E-Cheese. See link below for party ideas.
