I placed a 2.7lb smallie in our lake of 4 acres three years ago. Yesturday I caught a 1lb bass that did not have normal large markings it was a bronze color with cream belly it did fight harder than the bass we normally catch at this lake. There used to be only crappie,bluegil,cats,7 grass carp and large mouth in this lake. It had no vertical stripes like the normal bronzeback.

I believe they can cross breed and it sounds like you caught a hybrid - Large/Small mouth bass... you can call it a Lall bass or a Sarge bass...

it's not the size of their mouths that counts when it comes to breeding.
