Walking is a low impact workout that builds strength and endurance both of which come in handy during labor which takes a lot out of you.

It also increases your circulation which can reduce swelling that's common in pregnancy. And can also boost energy which is much-needed.

Another benefit of walking is that moving is good for the bowels and actually helps many pregnant woman stay more regular. Constipation is a common problem.

Swimming is excellent for reasons above but also it gives you a wonderful weightless feeling for a change!

Any exercise you do will help make labor more managable, although it won't take away pain or make you not have a "difficult" labor.

walking, swimming, biking all just get you in shape so that you can go through labor easier.. it just gets you in shape for it... it's not about the hormones or really even muscle tone.. it helps to keep your pregnancy weight in check and gives you better stamina to go through labor. my mom swears by walking for pregnancy and doing squats.. we'll see.. i'm 35 weeks and have been walking and biking and some swimming.. so we'll see how labor goes... good luck to you

Delivering a baby uses muscles we don't even think we own! Walking keeps you healty - same with swimming and other low-impact exercising, by helping blood flow and oxygen flow. You're pumping blood for two - and staying active keeps your body in shape and better suited for taking care of the two of you. It strengthens your lungs and makes sure you're pumping that blood OK!

It helps you keep in shape, and thus making delivery easier. Believe me, I have two kids. Also, swimming helps to lift the weight off of your back and body, and gives your body a little break. It feels nice, especially towards the end of pregnancy when the back and sciatic nerve start hurting.

Physical activity is helped with relaxed muscle tone and overall cardio-vascular health.

Swimming is great for a low to non-impact exercise without jostling or jiggling.

Pluse, you'll increase your endorphin levels and feel better about things

It helps keep the mucles from contracting so hard and relieves some of the pain during labor.

uh... No! and if it where I don't think it would be something to brag about because you'd technically have had a threesome with a baby.. or an embryo, depends on what you believe in. Either way both would be sick and disturbing to brag about.
